What’s a rash?
A rash, also called dermatitis (say: dur-muh-tye-tus), is any swelling or irritation of the skin. A rash can cause your skin to be red, dry, scaly, itchy and can even cause lumps, bumps, blisters and pimples. Rashes can go away on their own, but sometimes you need to see a dermatologist who can treat your rash with special creams or pills.

Common types of rashes:
Hives – pink/red bumps or pale swellings that itch or sting

Eczema – also called atopic dermatitis, makes your skin dry, chapped, red and itchy.

Irritant contact dermatitis – caused by an irritating substance like a soap, chemical or detergent.

Allergic contact dermatitis – caused by contact with an allergen (something you are allergic too) like rubber, hair dye or nickel.

Heat – when the weather is hot and humid you might get tiny reddish pimples on your skin called a heat rash. The best cure for a heat rash is to stay cool and dry.

Poisonous plant rash – poison ivy, poison sumac and poison oak can all make your skin bubble, blister and itch. When you come in contact with the oil from one of these plants you may break out in an allergic rash.
