If your story is selected as the contest winner, it will be made into a
real public service announcement (PSA) and broadcast on television in the
summer and fall of 2009.
Other cool prizes will be awarded to all contest finalists,
too!
To participate in the "Don't Start" Smoking Storyboard
Contest, you will need a contest storyboard sheet. Then, draw and write your
story using a "Don't Start" theme. You may use paints, crayons or
colored markers. You must draw something original, which means you cannot
trace.
Need help creating your story? Then download BlueAnn's "Don't Start"
Activity Sheets to help you think of some ideas!
Judging will be based on free-hand drawing. Draw pictures of animals,
family members, your favorite cartoon characters, movie characters ... or BlueAnn
Ewe to tell your story. Write a story or make up a conversation below each
picture box to tell about or explain what is happening. When all the pictures
are completed and lines of writing are filled in, they should give a complete
message about why people should not start smoking.
When you are finished, mail the completed storyboard (through your
teacher at school, or parent if completing outside of class or through a
home-school program) to:
"Don't Start" Smoking Storyboard Contest
Arkansas Respiratory Health Association
211 Natural Resources Drive
Little Rock, AR 72205
The deadline to complete and return your storyboard is April 30, 2009 (postmarked).
Notable: The "Don't Start" Smoking Storyboard Contest is
open to students in kindergarten through fifth grade in public, private and
home schools. Each grade level category will have a first-, second- and
third-place finalist. From those finalists, a grand-prize
winner will be selected. This contest will be judged by a panel of media and
health professionals and is not a random drawing. There is no cost to enter the
contest. Storyboards become the property of the Arkansas Respiratory
Health Association.
